Provincial Load Shedding Relief Grant: Progress Report 11

Provincial Load Shedding Relief Grant: Progress Report 11

Overstrand Municipality is eagerly awaiting the delivery of the back-up generator that will be installed at the Baardskeerdersbos water treatment plant.

If all goes according to plan, the commissioning of the last of 11 generators will be finalised by the end of March 2024 to ensure that Overstrand Municipality’s most critical water and wastewater facilities are safeguarded against prolonged load-shedding.

The other ten generators at the Mossel River sewerage pump station, Kleinmond Tennis Courts sewerage pump station, Kleinmond water treatment plant, Klipgat Spring pump station, De Kelders water treatment plant, Pearly Beach water treatment plant, Gansbaai wastewater treatment plant, Palmiet River raw water pump station in Kleinmond, the Kraaibosch Dam bulk raw water pump station in Gansbaai and the Stanford boreholes are fully operational.

To date, the total costs incurred to procure, install and commission all eleven emergency generators amount to R10,9 million (VAT included). The procurement of the generators was made possible by the Western Cape Government’s reserve fund for unforeseen and unavoidable events, supplemented by the Municipality’s own funds.

We will keep residents abreast of progress made.
